Ways to love on your Self this week
This week is a big one for romance and relationships. Whether it’s with our sweetheart, our galentines (yay Parks & Rec), or our classmates—remember those little paper bags that we used to bring home from grade school chalk full of sweet little notes and candies??
More of that please.
I’m all for sweet gestures of love and adoration.
But this week I’m here with a challenge for you: Turn some of that attention on your Self.
🌹 Take your Self on a romantic walk. (An Artist Date, alaThe Artist’s Way, perhaps?)
This could be a walk through the park. A wander through a local museum. Even a few laps around the local mall if it’s raining. There is inspiration and wonder everywhere. You just need to take some time, unplug from ALL your devices, and lean in.
🌹 Treat your Self to a little sweet treat or a dinner for One. (Table for one? It’s amazing, you should try it!)
Sugar is evil, there’s no doubt about it. But it’s also a really powerful way to get someone’s attention, including your Inner Child. What’s your favorite treat that you haven’t given yourself permission to enjoy in a while? Or if you have the time and means to take yourself to a dinner (I hear eating out isn't the best service or quality on Feb 14, but good for you decide to take yourself out to eat alone that night. I definitely want to hear all about it!), it could be fun to try a place that your family or partner never want to go to. Make it special. Make it about your Self.
🌹 Pamper your Self with something indulgent. (Bonus points if you do something that no one else knows you like to do!)
From pedicures—yes, I’m especially talking to you men-folk out there—to facials, from a purchase of airline tickets for a future trip, to a online order of specialty art supplies. Or that notebook you’ve been eyeing. Or those fancy underpants—and yes, I’m especially talking to you single folks out there. You are with it. And the investment will come back to you, I promise.
🌹 Write yourself a love letter. (Bonus points if you stash it away with a calendar reminder to read it in 6 months, or a year!)
We all need to hear those three little words from the people who matter to us most. When's the last time you said it to yourself? When's the last time you wrote down a list of things you appreciate about yourself, about your body, about the things you have survived? Even a hug will work, or a high-five in the mirror, thank you Mel Robbins. Don't make it a thing, just make a thoughtful connection.
You get the idea.
The most important relationship you will ever have is with your Self. And we can go a lifetime without paying much attention to our inner most thoughts, let alone our most private desires and preferences and pleasures.
So whether you get caught up in the pink-and-red-heart ferver this week, make sure you do at least one small (or big!) thing for your Self.
I haven’t quite decided what I’m going to do with my Self this week. But I’ll be back next Sunday with a full report. 🌹
XOXO,
Marit
